Dr Ulf Schmitz is a computational biologist with training in bioinformatics and systems biology. He completed his PhD in June 2015 at the University of Rostock (Germany) under the supervision of Prof Olaf Wolkenhauer. In his PhD thesis, he investigated microRNA target regulation mechanisms by integrating multiple computational approaches. From 2015 – 2021, he was a postdoctoral Research Officer in Professor John Rasko’s Gene and Stem Cell Therapy Program and was appointed Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the Sydney Medical School in 2016. He established his the Computational BioMedicine Laboratory in 2018 at Centenary Institute, then in 2021, became an Associate Professor with the James Cook University.
