‘When Art Meets Science’ exhibition opens at RPA
On view in the main foyer of RPA, the exhibition features a collection of striking scientific images derived from the Centenary Institute’s pioneering medical research. From intricate ‘star-like’ brain structures to clusters of white blood cells mobilising against disease, and ‘tree-like’ muscle fibres, the exhibition offers a tantalising glimpse into the Institute’s innovative work.
The launch event, attended by Dr Teresa Anderson, Chief Executive of Sydney Local Health District; Professor Marc Pellegrini, Executive Director of the Centenary Institute; Sam Bhatia, Deputy Director of Sydney Research; and artist-patient Mary Lou Pavolvic, underscored the collaborative nature of the exhibition.
Professor Pellegrini said that patients, visitors and staff at RPA now have the opportunity to glimpse what scientists see through the microscope.
“The imagery developed by our scientists as part of their research endeavours have both scientific significance and are visual works of art,” said Professor Pellegrini.
“Centenary Institute scientists dedicate their lives to understanding disease and finding cures. This exhibit provides a unique opportunity for the public to gain insight into the complex and fascinating world of medical research.”
Professor Pellegrini emphasised that the opportunity to showcase Centenary’s vital and engaging work at the hospital demonstrated the Institute’s close affiliation with SLHD, RPA and the broader health precinct.
The exhibition will run throughout the month of March with the public invited to vote for their favourite image.
