2GB Healthy Living program interviews Professor Gamble
During the interview, Professor Gamble explained that they had discovered a connection between the health of blood vessels and the development of Alzheimer’s disease.
“Specific blood vessel cells, known as endothelial and perivascular cells, are the linchpin of the blood-brain barrier, a fortress guarding the brain against harmful intruders,” said Professor Gamble.
“Our research reveals that an accumulation of non-functional aged cells of the blood vessel can weaken this barrier and may exacerbate Alzheimer’s progression. This highlights the potential of early interventions targeting blood vessel health for new Alzheimer’s treatments,” she said.
