Minister Harris visits Centenary
During his visit, the Minister received a tour of the Institute’s state-of-the-art research facilities from Executive Director Professor Marc Pellegrini and engaged with Centenary research leaders and scientists.
Dr Richard Bagnall, Head of the Centre for Cardiovascular Research, presented his team’s pioneering work on inherited heart disease and sudden cardiac death. The Minister was shown an innovative ‘disease in a dish’ model featuring beating heart cells, exemplifying the groundbreaking research being conducted.
The tour continued at the Centre for Cancer Innovations, where leader Dr Jessamy Tiffen shared insights into her team’s efforts to unravel the complex genetic and cellular mechanisms underlying various cancers, with a particular focus on melanoma. Dr Tiffen’s research aims to advance new, targeted cancer treatments.
Professor Pellegrini thanked Minister Harris for his visit, stating, “This visit was a fantastic chance to highlight the exceptional medical research we’re doing here at the Centenary Institute. I look forward to future meetings with the Minister and sharing our amazing discoveries that will further advance health outcomes and improve lives.”
