Help Aussie hearts
We’ve made breakthroughs in heart research, but need your support to continue and save lives.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Australia.1
The lives of people who suffer from heart disease are at great risk and restricted by symptoms such as breathlessness, fatigue and fast heartbeat.
With no cure, the life limitations can be so intense that many suffer from depression.
In collaboration with international scientists, Dr Daniel Hesselson made an exciting discovery that can help find cures to heart disease, and potentially save many lives.
Please help us continue groundbreaking research work like Dr Hesselson’s that can reduce deaths from devastating diseases like heart failure.
Heart disease is the leading cause of deaths in Australia1
Heart failure is a condition in which the heart is unable to pump blood effectively to meet the body’s needs.
People with heart failure can feel constantly tired and unable to perform daily activities such as climbing stairs, carrying groceries or playing with children2. Most feel exhausted, anxious and some suffer from depression.
Good news for Aussie hearts
Dr Daniel Hesselson has made an exciting breakthrough that can help patients with cardiovascular diseases.
In collaboration with an international team of scientists, he identified a gene that could enable the regeneration of heart muscles.
Harnessing the power of bioengineering, he now wants to develop effective treatments and possible cures. This will significantly help prevent deaths from heart diseases.
The novel heart regeneration gene was discovered in collaboration with Dr Kazu Kikuchi while he was Head of the Cardiac Regeneration Lab at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.
Dr Daniel Hesselson has developed a unique research laboratory using cutting edge technology to investigate new drug therapies for heart disease.
